Montana Photojournalism Adventure Itinerary

>> Print this page

Day 1: Arriving at Bozeman airport, your Alpenguides will greet you and introduce you to the rest of your group for general camp introductions before hopping in the van for a 45 minute drive to our first campsite. At the campsite, we'll review our photojournalism assignment, Portrait of an Alpengirl and Her Adventures. The first of many delicious and fresh "camp gourmet" meals will be served before an evening of late night giggles and sleepy time dreams. Camping at a forest service campground near Bozeman.

Day 2: Yoga introduction in the morning followed by a review of camera function basics and "Top 10 Tips" of basic photography that we'll refer to throughout the session. Whitewater water rafting in the early evening on the Gallatin River will be a thrilling opportunity to try out our waterproof cameras! Camping same. Note: Yoga is an integral part of all Alpengirl camp itineraries and the start to most days.

Day 3-6: Backpacking into the wild! Leaving the van and extra gear behind, we'll grab our cameras and backpack a round-trip total of about 11 miles to a high mountain lake located in a magnificent alpine bowl. We'll attempt to get to the lake on the first or second day of backpaking and allow one or two days of day hike exploration around the lake or even a 10,000 foot peak attempt that offers "top of the world" views and perhaps an opportunity to photograph the moutain goats that linger here! The last day of backpacking is all down hill with showers and laundry near our campground.

Day 7: We'll be driving back to Bozeman today for burning cd's, charging batteries and printing photos before arriving in Paradise Valley for camping at a forest service campground.

Day 8: A day of dedicated writing time, photo sorting and sharing and portfolio assembly. Tonight we'll soak in a nearby public hot spring pool! Camping same.

Day 9: Early day rafting class III-IV rapids of the Yellowstone River followed by hiking and exploring in Yellowstone National Park on a road-based tour. Camping in the Park.

Day 10: Hiking and exploring in Yellowstone National Park. Camping outside the Park at a forest service campground near West Yellowstone, MT.

Day 11: An easy, flat-water canoe day on the Henrys Fork of the Snake River. Camping same.

Day 12: A full day of horseback riding in the Centennial Mountains along the continental divide. Camping same.

Day 13: Driving back to Bozeman for final cd burning and photo printing. Continue with portfolio assembly tonight. Camping near Bozeman, MT.

Day 14: Our last hooray together! We'll spend the day completing photo essays and written inspirations to share in our portfolio presentation and awards ceremony this evening. Camp same.

Day 15: Departing from Bozeman airport. See you next summer!
