The Alpengirl campers will be attempting to call parents today, the day before camp ends… girls may try parents by phone at anytime of the day today; morning, afternoon or evening. The girls have limited time and service availability to make these calls today, the groups will be busy with final camp ceremonies, souvenir shopping and some groups may also be trying to do some laundry and showers today.
It’s been a great summer at Alpengirl, these last few trips of our 2009 summer camp season - Hawaii, Washington and Montana, have all been spectacular and the girls have had great attitudes and energy! Thank you Alpengirls and Alpenparents, it’s been a treat for the Alpenguides to adventure with these girls and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Alpengirl Parents will be receiving a camper/parent camp evaluation survey link by email soon after camp ends, please look for that in your inbox soon and take a moment to complete it, it helps us to improve.

MT Photojournalist Alpengirls are working on completing their final portfolios right now. It has taken a bit longer than expected to get photos organized and writings done. So, Alpengirls will be making calls home to you in about an hour from now (around 6 pm mtn time) after portfolios are done and before pizza party. I am excited to see the finished works and eat pizza with the group soon!

The weather has been fabulous in Alaska with good forecasts through Friday - a great start to the Alpengirl Alaska Girl Adventurers! Today Indigo has been picked as the L.O.D. (Leader of the Day). The group has had their first Alpenyoga session, followed by egg breakfast bagel sandwiches, lunch by Portage Glacier, and a group photo with Smokey the Bear. When I was talking with Kerri (Alpenguide) on the phone today, the group was watching a bald eagle fly overhead while creating new nicknames for each other - new camp friendships are taking root. The girls will start backpacking tomorrow and blogging about the Alaska camp group will begin again when I hear from them after backpacking. The girls seem very prepared and ready for adventure, no talk about showers, bathrooms, etc - real troopers! I can’t wait to hear how the backpacking goes for them, more to you when I have it. No news = good news at camp, Alpenguides will be calling parents on Sunday July 12, campers will call home on Friday July 17.
Canoeing in Idaho with Alpengirls
I enjoyed a great day of canoeing on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River in Idaho yesterday with the Greater Yellowstone Adventure Alpengirls! Sunny skies all day with Alpenolympic canoe and water events. Allyson won the canoe race and Justine won the whale breach, a good time was had by all. The girls were appreciative of the coin-operated showers after canoeing while laundry was getting finished. After getting cleaned up, the cook group prepared dinner during a brief rain/hail down-pour, they cooks were awesome and never let the rain slow them down; Bailee was on garlic saute, Britnee was on noodle boiling and appetizer preparation, Becca was on cream sauce, and Jules was on broccoli steaming. Tomato-Mozzarella-Basil Stackers were served as appetizers and were followed by Spinach Pasta with a Broccoli Cream Sauce, I think everyone joined the clean plate club last night - it was a full day of activity with the finale being the Alpenwear sales event where Alpenguides turned into runway super models - Anastasia from Czechoslovakia who loves chocolate and puppies and Anna from Belgium who loves waffles and walnuts. The group is horseback riding today.

Alpengirl has joined www.Ning.com. It’s another online social network and we’re learning how to be social about it… do you want to join our Alpengirl group on Ning.com? We were directed to Ning.com by a camp parent who suggested it for younger girls (you have to be age 13 to join Facebook.) Honestly, I am not sure how we’ll keep up with all the new online communication channels, we just know that it’s good to be open to trying new things. This is Alpengirl reminding you, “change is the only constant,” so go with the flow

Alpengirl joins with The Burnt Lake Foundation (BLF) to offer summer camp scholarships. The BLF is a non-profit organization that financially assists campers in paying for selected rocky mountain camps they want to attend. No commitment is necessary to see if you can join Alpengirl on a partial or full scholarship. Just email Alpengirl for a BLF application, mail it in right away, and wait and see what happens. Very few applications are turned in each year, we’d like the number of applications to increase – so, just try it and see!
